Al Maktoum International Airport, located in the burgeoning Dubai South, is gearing up for an exciting transformation.
Exciting Future
Starting cargo flights in 2010, and passenger flights in 2013, the airport currently has a single 5km runway and 12 gates. However, with the launch of the mega AED 128 billion terminal upgrade project, the airport is poised to be the world’s largest in 10 years.
Massive Project
Designed to be five times the size of Dubai Int’l Airport, the expanded Al Maktoum Airport will span a colossal 70km². With the capacity to host 260 million passengers annually, it could rewrite aviation history.
Further, the airport will boast five runways, 400 gates, and a massive annual cargo capacity of 12 million tons. Truly, an aviation engineering marvel! The futuristic vision for the airport includes an automated people-mover system and an integrated transportation hub that seamlessly connects roads, metro, and urban air transport.
Real Estate Boom
This transformation will drive a real estate boom in the city. Over the next decade, there will be a demand for over 100,000 properties, including villas, townhouses, and apartments. Reports suggest a 15-25% rise in real estate prices in Dubai South. Prices could escalate further once the airport is fully operational.
