Disney has announced its first theme park in the Middle East, and it’s coming to Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. This project marks Disney’s first new theme park in 15 years. It also signals a major step forward in the UAE’s growing tourism sector.
Disney and Miral Join Forces
The Walt Disney Company has partnered with Miral, Abu Dhabi’s top developer of entertainment destinations. Miral will handle development and construction. Meanwhile, Disney will lead the creative side—designing attractions, planning operations, and shaping the guest experience.
The announcement took place on May 7, 2025. Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi and Chairman of Miral, shared the news. He was joined by Disney CEO Bob Iger. His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, also attended the event.
Yas Island Expands Its Global Reach
Yas Island already hosts world-class attractions like Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World, and Yas Waterworld. Now, it adds another jewel to its crown—the seventh Disney theme park destination worldwide. This location joins the likes of California, Florida, Tokyo, Paris, Hong Kong, and Shanghai.
Thanks to its central location, the park will welcome visitors from the Middle East, Africa, India, and Europe. As a result, Abu Dhabi will strengthen its position as a family-friendly global tourism hub.
A New Chapter for Entertainment in the Region
The new park will offer classic Disney storytelling, innovative rides, and immersive experiences. These will cater to both local and international audiences. In addition, the project aligns with Abu Dhabi’s strategy to grow as a center for culture and family tourism.
Millions of tourists are expected to visit the resort each year. With this launch, Abu Dhabi takes another bold step toward becoming a world leader in the entertainment industry.
