Construction of the massive AED 128 billion passenger terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport has started. Once complete, the airport in Dubai South will be the world’s largest airport. Dubai Aviation Corporation is managing the capacity-expansion project.
Massive Project
The upgraded Al Maktoum Airport will have the world’s largest passenger capacity at 260 million passengers annually. Designed to be five times the size of the current Dubai International Airport, Al Maktoum International Airport will have 400 gates and five parallel runways. Notably, all the operations at Dubai International Airport will be shifted to the new airport once the project is complete. Al Maktoum airport will also feature the most advanced technologies in the aviation sector.
A New City In The Making
An entire city is being built around the new airport. It will have modern residential communities with world-class amenities. An estimated one million people will be moving to Dubai South for work and business purposes. Major developers like Emaar have launched mega residential projects featuring villas, townhouses and apartments to meet the rising demand for housing. The city will also host the world’s leading companies in the logistics and air transport sectors.
World’s New Global Centre
Spread across 145-sq. km, Dubai South will have eight neighbourhoods designed for commercial and residential purposes. The new global centre of Dubai South will be a key driver of Dubai’s growth strategy .
